Iskander A. (Alex) Shalaby

(Chairman & Board Member)

On September 1, 2008 Alex Shalaby was appointed Chairman of the Egyptian Company for Mobile Services (Mobinil) by Board consensus; prior to that he was its President and CEO since 2005. Alex Shalaby was Chief Officer for Regulatory Affairs at Mobinil from 1998 to 2005 and was responsible for the licensing and regulations required in setting up Mobinil as the first mobile operator in Egypt. Between 1993 and 1995, Shalaby was Regional Director for International Public Affairs for AT&T, based in Cairo, Egypt, where he was the principal interface with key agencies within the governments in the region on matters impacting AT&T’s operations. Shalaby was Managing Director for AT&T in Egypt, and General Manager for the Middle East and North Africa region until 1993. In 1966 Shalaby graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alexandria and a Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from San Jose State University, USA.

Junaid Iqbal Khan

(CEO & Board Member)

Mr. Junaid Iqbal Khan has extensive operational experience in the emerging market telecom industry, having served as CEO of some of the largest cellular and fixed line operators. He has wide-range leadership experience in the United States, the Middle East, and emerging markets. Prior to joining Telecom Services & Consultants, Mr. Khan held numerous senior level positions with Zain, Motorola, Mobilink, and PTCL. A corporate turnaround strategist, he is a graduate of Berkely (University of California).

Syed Bashir Ahmad

(Board Member)

Syed Bashir Ahmad has been associated with the Banking and Financial industry for more than 2 decades and has held senior management positions in Wealth Management and Private Investment Banking with International Banks in London and Asia. Mr. Bashir was Head of Private Clients at ABN AMRO Bank, ING and Bank of Singapore in UK where he was leading a team of Senior Bankers covering the Global Markets. Subsequently, as Managing Director and Head of UK Private Banking for ING (later OCBC), he started the Private Bank from scratch in London and grew the business significantly.

In 2010, he set up Halkin Investments LLP, an Independent Asset Management firm involved in Investment Management, Investment Banking and Real Estate. He is currently running it as CEO. He is also the Chairman of the board of Halkin Middle East, a company founded two years back and is regulated by DFSA (Dubai). Mr. Bashir has a Master degree in International Relations from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad.

Iain David Johns

(Board Member)

Iain David Johns is a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in client services. He serves on the boards of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (Singapore) and the Jersey Financial Services Commission (Jersey). He has also served on the boards of several companies in Cayman, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the British Virgin Islands. He is currently the Group Head of Private Client Services and a Director on the JTC Group Holdings Board, where he is responsible for the formulation and execution of strategy, as well as the overall performance of the Private Client business line. He has also held several positions at TMF Group, including Global Head of TMF Group Private Client Business Line, where he was responsible for business line performance and strategy, Member of the TMF Group Global Executive Committee with specific responsibility for the Private Client Business Line, and Managing Director, TMF Jersey, where he was responsible for the office’s performance; including both the Private Client and Corporate Services business lines.

Syed Mukhtar Ahmed

(Board Member)

Mukhtar possesses rich telecommunications experience in diverse disciplines such as radio, microwave, satellite, digital switching, optical fiber, and submarine Optical fiber systems. He served Pakistan Telecommunications Company Ltd and its erstwhile predecessor organizations Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation and Pakistan Telephone and Telegraph Department for almost 36 years. His last position was Director General/ Executive Vice President International Communications for two years. He represented PTCL as member Management Committee of the SEA-ME-WE-3 and SEA-ME-WE-4 International submarine Optical fiber cable systems and was first Vice Chairperson of SEA-ME-WE-4 Management committee. He also served on deputation for ten 10 years in Ministry of Interior Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as Telecommunications expert to develop security forces Kingdom wise H.F, VHF, Paging, monitoring / surveillance, and secure fax networks as well as private mobile networks for the Royalty. He joined Saif Telecom Ltd as Advisor in April 2005. He successfully directed the construction of Transworld’s first TW1 Submarine Cable System. He represented the company in the Management Committee of Sea Me We 5 submarine Cable system jointly built by consortium of Telecom Operators in 15 South East Asia Middle East and European countries including Pakistan where it lands at Transworld Cable Station in Karachi. He advises Transworld Engineering Team on operations and upgrade issues of the company submarine optical fiber Cables which provide international connectivity services for earning revenues by the company. He holds B.Sc. Electrical Engineering degree from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and postgraduate qualification in Telecommunication Engineering and is the life member of Pakistan Engineering Council.

Muhammad Jawaid Iqbal

Muhammad Jawaid Iqbal is an experienced professional and has served at various senior positions in the financial sector entities including commercial banks and DFIDs. He is currently working as CEO of Providus Capital (Private) Limited and is managing equity portfolio of about ten billion rupees. He has also served as Board member of various national and multinational entities of varied sectors. 

Mr. Iqbal holds a master degree in Business Administration from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan Pakistan. Along with MBA, He has completed his Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School, USA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), from CFA Institute, USA, and Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), Chartered Banker Institute, UK.

Khursheed Ashraf

Khursheed Ashraf is the General Manager (Business Division) for Waleed Associates in Muscat Sultane of Oman. He has been working on senior positions for the last 40 years. He is in the board of management of Siemens LLC Oman & NEWREST WACASCO, Oman. He is the part of the Executive committee members of National Telephone Services Co. Oman and Executive committee member of Rees Oil & Gas services LLC, Oman. Prior taking professional assignments in Oman, He served in Siemens Pakistan & Packages Limited in Lahore. By the virtue of education, Mr. Ashraf is an Electrical Engineer.
